Lipids are made up of fatty acids that joined up with glycerol molecules. They are used to store energy in cells. Lipids can exist in membranes or waterproof coverings. An example of lipids is steroids which can act as chemical messengers. Lipids are found in household items such as cooking oil.

Nucleic acids contain are molecules that contain hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, oxygen and nitrogen. Nucleic acids are made up of nucleotides. Nucleic acids are for genetic information in cells. Nucleic acids are RNA or DNA amino-acid-mcat1.png

Proteins contain nitrogen, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen. The polymers are amino acids. There are more then 20 amino acids which are hold together by covalent bonds. Proteins are in charge of monitoring the cell processes. Proteins help form muscles and bones while other proteins help fight diseases by transporting substances in or out of the cell.

carbon400.jpgCarbon is a very unique element. Carbon is special because it has 4 covalent bonds which it can use to form 4 covalent bonds with other elements like oxygen, hydrogen and sulfur. It can also form long carbon chains.
